I love succulents. Everyone loves succulents; and guess what, love indeed doesn’t cost a thing. Succulents are so easy to propagate that you don’t need to spend big bucks to have it planted in your garden or a terrarium inside your house.

How? Follow these steps.

 

 

Step 1

First, you’ll be needing these things:

  • Succulent cuttings
  • Pots (must have drainage holes and preferably small ones- a teacup or an old bowl will do)
  • Some potting mix
  • Sand or any gravelly thing that provides good drainage when combined with soil

Find big, old succulents in public gardens or nature walks. Or you can ask your neighbors and friends.

Step 2

Find a part of the succulent that would look great in the pot and cut it with a sharp, clean knife leaving 5 to 10 cm of its stem. Make sure to use a clean knife to prevent any growth of bacteria or fungal infection.

 

Step 3

Dry the succulent cutting for one to two days. Put it away from direct sunlight and in a well-ventilated area. This will produce a callus that will prevent the deadly fungus from getting into your succulents.

 

Step 4

Mix equal parts of gritty stuff and potting mix to create your succulent potting mix.

 

Step 5

Mix everything up using your hands, then shovel them into your pot.

 

Step 6

Figure out the design that you want your succulents to be planted. Try different variations of colours and height in your arrangements. Then, once you figured your design out, dig a hole with enough depth and width to hold your succulent cutting in the soil.

 

Step 7

Plant the succulent into the hole making sure it is well surrounded with the potting mix. Continue steps 1 to 6 until you are done with your arrangements. Succulents are fairly tough, so don’t get scared of pulling off leaves that may get in your way.

 

Step 8

Water the succulents and let the water drain. When the soil starts to get dry, water it again.

 

Step 9

Put your potted succulent in a sunny and warm location. At about 4 to 6 weeks, your succulents will produce new growth if they rooted well.

 

Step 10

Give yourself a pat on the back. You’re done!
